Not to diminish your idea, because I can see how it's not the same thing, but just in case this helps for you here:
Setting up a shared list is a great way to collaborate with multiple people, and then you can give tasks within the list. So you could keep shared tasks unassigned but then assign ones you want to keep shared but also designate to one or the other.
